Hi Lauren – I work with Orion at Janrain and wanted to answer your question. As Orion alluded to above, one of the benefits of social login for consumers is that they have the choice about whether to share some of their personal information when registering with a social identity – it is an opt-in experience. Consumers must explicitly choose to grant websites access to the profile data from their social network when they are signing in. Thus, for brands and websites, social profile data is only accessed with permission from the consumer.

We’ve commissioned some consumer research which indicates that a majority of consumers are comfortable sharing some of the information from their social network profile in exchange for a faster, easier registration process and a more personalized experience on websites.

It’s really great that companies like Janrain, Gigya, LoginRadius and
others are helping website owners with social login and other social
tools which can help in getting more and more traffic back to website.
    Really informative article
