Thanks all for the support - I think I could have done a bit better moderating, and will next time. I'm looking forward to the next one!

You did a great job moderating the panel, Jackie, and it's great to see all the LA peeps and Tweeps who are interested in social media. The energy and cultural stance reminds me of indie rock in the 80s and 90s when labels like Homestead, SST and Twin/Tone stood in stark contrast to the major labels/mainstream dreck that was broadcast to the masses. We didn't have blogs but we had Xerox machines and fanzines! So much of the energy then as now is enthusiasm for a new form of media that offers a real alternative to the command and control structures. Bloggers and members of online social networks, "the people formerly known as the audience" is what indie music was and continues to be about...and in social media, the McLuhan dictum of "medium is the message," as Robert Richman suggested, is so much clearer as the multi-dimensional conversation takes over the old structures and gives hope that the egalitarian form of social media empowers social transformation. Would love to see an exploration of using the social web for social change as well as digging deeper into the implications for corporations and individuals.
