What’s your role on SMCLA’s board and what does that involve?
I am on the Programs committee. We come up with great programming ideas and make sure they get pulled off.
Describe your day job.
My day job consists of helping business owners and marketing people get their heads around how to use social media in a productive way that is justifiable to the C-suite and/or bottom line.
Describe your career.
My background is in technology. In my past life, I was the Technology Director for a land surveying firm in South Carolina. From that position, I discovered social media and found ways to improve the branding and awareness of the land surveying company. I knew that social media was the way to affordably and effectively help the marketing efforts of any business. Now, here in Southern California, I continue those efforts and work as a contractor helping a variety of businesses in a wide range of industries.
Most exciting or meaningful work project?
I thoroughly enjoy managing and working with a WordPress community that I was instrumental in organizing in South Carolina. Because of the Internet, I am still able to participate regularly in the group and help others with their questions. That passion to help other WordPress peeps lead me to volunteering with the South Bay WordPress Meetup group here in Southern California.
I got involved with SMCLA because…
I got involved with SMC when I lived in South Carolina. Trey Pennington was instrumental in getting me involved with social media and networking with others that are into it too. So, when I moved to LA, SMCLA was a great place for me to get to know others in the social media / digital media community.
What was the first social network you joined?
I’m a work nerd at heart and joined LinkedIn way back in April 2005.
Where can we find you on social media?
I encourage SMCLA members to consider serving on the board because…
The people that you meet on the Board of the Social Media Club LA are at the top of their industry and are willing to help you get where you want to be. Being a part of the Board is a great way to meet like minded people in the LA area and grow professionally.
